I was a fan of Big Mouth before I became a writer on it because it managed to take one of the most stressful, unstable, emotional times in life [puberty] and make it funny, meaningful, and cathartic. But in general, my course of action is to just continue showing up as myself, continue being as visible as possible. To me, its about building community. As far as inclusion goes, the talent believes hes in great company and has been a leader in making room for his community. So there's this thing - right? Its a guide to setting boundaries and fostering self-growth. So tell me something good, or tell me something messy. CHANG: When in life did you decide that what you wanted to do through your art, through your personality - what you wanted to do was to help people learn to love themselves more? Follow. When I was about 21, I told my therapist that "no matter how attractive I might be, I'd never be as attractive as a white man." And thats never the most fun process. I hope we will eradicate tokenismand instead, we will be valued and have our stories set the standard. An incredible actress and writer and maybe one of my greatest inspirations, but also a source of one of my greatest pains. We cant pull away from the value of that while reckoning with this other thing. I started the mentorship program in 2020 with the help of my bosses, Mark [Levin], Jen [Flackett], Andrew [Goldberg] and Nick [Kroll]. And what was really clocked kind of immediately was that I was really effeminate. Big Mouth has allowed me to unpack those traumas in a thoughtful way. As 2020 came with a pandemic and racial battles not seen in years, many entertainers and everyday people found themselves driven by purpose and into the fight. What their mental aerobics of being in a room of 12 white men is? You know, thats a lot. We're required to fit into boxes based on our race, gender, sexuality, and other parts of our identities, being told by others how we should behave, who we should date, or what we should be interested in. So I started writing plays, sketches, and making videos for myself. All rights reserved.
