This sword is a Model 1913 cavalry sword commonly referred to as the "Patton Saber." The sword was designed for the U.S. Army by Second Lieutenant (later General) George S. Patton Jr. in 1913. The guard is made of a single heavy sheet of steel molded into a full basket with three ridges in the area of the knucklebow.
